How do I play the online xylophone?

In 3D view, choose Play to tap, strum, or glide across a playing surface. Hold keys or wind surfaces to sustain a note. Choose Rotate to inspect the model; scroll or pinch to zoom. Use the labeled note controls or computer keys for chords and the full range. Classic view provides the original illustrated playing surface. Both 3D rows play: 17 chromatic notes from C5 to E6, including the raised accidental bars. Classic view keeps ten diatonic notes. Use Play close-up to enlarge the bars or open All pitches for labeled controls.

What sounds does the virtual xylophone use?

Xylophone samples give each strike a crisp attack and ringing upper overtones.

Use the raised bars between the natural notes

Explore the chromatic pitches available in 3D. This short climb includes notes that the compact diatonic Classic layout leaves out.

Starting tempo: 60 BPM. Use Keep the beat for a steady pulse.

  2. 2C-sharp5

  4. 4D-sharp5
  5. 5E5
  6. 6D-sharp5
  7. 7D5
  8. 8C5
  1. Expose the complete range

Choose 3D view and open All 17 pitches below the main note controls. Find C5, C-sharp5, D5, D-sharp5 and E5; sharp labels use the sharp symbol in the controls.

  2. Tap each semitone

At 60 BPM, tap one named control on each beat. Use the full-range buttons for the sharps rather than the compact computer-key shortcuts.

  3. Find the same pitches on the model

Choose Play and use Play close-up if needed. Repeat on the two rows of 3D bars, including the raised accidental bars.

Try next: Skip both sharp notes and play C5-D5-E5-D5. Compare that larger-step pattern with the chromatic climb.
