Answer a rising brass call

Build a short call and response from three pitches. Reversing the order gives the second half a clear relationship to the first.

Starting tempo: 72 BPM. Use Keep the beat for a steady pulse.

  1. 1C4 (A)
  2. 2E4 (D)
  3. 3G4 (G)
  4. 4Release and rest
  5. 5G4 (G)
  6. 6E4 (D)
  7. 7C4 (A)
  8. 8Release and rest
  1. Use direct pitch controls

Locate C4, E4 and G4, mapped to A, D and G. These shortcuts choose pitches directly; the illustrated valves are not an acoustic fingering chart.

  2. Play a short call

At 72 BPM, play C4, E4 and G4 on beats 1, 2 and 3. Release each key before the next attack and leave beat 4 empty.

  3. Answer in reverse

Play G4, E4 and C4 on beats 5, 6 and 7, then rest. Repeat with the same spacing in both halves.

Try next: Hold the last C4 through the final beat instead of resting. Compare a sustained ending with the original short answer.
