Let the end of a flute phrase settle

A small rising phrase becomes clearer when its held note and rests have deliberate lengths. The virtual flute needs no microphone or breath input.

Starting tempo: 60 BPM. Use Keep the beat for a steady pulse.

  1. 1C5 (A)
  2. 2D5 (S)
  3. 3E5 (D)
  4. 4Keep holding E5
  5. 5D5 (S)
  6. 6Release and rest
  7. 7C5 (A)
  8. 8Release and rest
  1. Find the three pitches

Use A, S and D for C5, D5 and E5, or their labeled note controls. Start Keep the beat at 60 BPM.

  2. Hold the top of the phrase

Play C5 and D5 on the first two beats. Press E5 on beat 3 and keep it down through beat 4, then release before returning to D5.

  3. Make the rests intentional

Release on beats 6 and 8. Repeat the whole phrase only after the final rest, without filling the gap with another note.

Try next: Replace E5 with G5 using G. Keep the same durations and listen to how the higher turning point changes the phrase.
