Separate a held note from a new attack

This phrase alternates sustained and short sampled notes. It explores note length with buttons or keys, without simulating bow pressure or direction.

Starting tempo: 60 BPM. Use Keep the beat for a steady pulse.

  1. 1C4 (A)
  2. 2Keep holding C4
  3. 3E4 (D)
  4. 4Release and rest
  5. 5D4 (S)
  6. 6Keep holding D4
  7. 7C4 (A)
  8. 8Release and rest
  1. Locate three notes

Find C4, D4 and E4 in the labeled note controls. Their computer shortcuts are A, S and D. Set the metronome to 60 BPM and four beats.

  2. Hold across the second beat

Press A on beat 1 and keep it down through beat 2. Release before playing D on beat 3, then release for beat 4. Follow the same long-short-rest shape in the second half.

  3. Change one duration

Repeat, but release the first C4 at beat 2 instead of holding it. Compare the shortened opening with the original version.

Try next: Move the opening held note from C4 to G4 using G, while leaving the rest of the phrase unchanged.
