Try the ukulele’s G–C–E–A open-string tuning. The compact four-string layout makes it easy to explore a light, rhythmic strum.

## How to play

In 3D view, choose Play to tap, strum, or glide across a playing surface. Hold keys or wind surfaces to sustain a note. Choose Rotate to inspect the model; scroll or pinch to zoom. Use the labeled note controls or computer keys for chords and the full range. Classic view provides the original illustrated playing surface. Touch the 15-fret 3D neck for a melody, or choose C, F, G or Am and strum over the body. Open strings restores G–C–E–A; Classic view and keyboard shortcuts remain available.

## Sound

The ukulele uses nylon guitar samples with adapted tuning and a shorter envelope; these are an approximation of ukulele tone.

## Hear the high G in open tuning

Arrange the four open ukulele strings by sounding pitch, then compare that order with the instrument layout. The high G makes the difference audible.

Starting tempo: 72 BPM. Use Keep the beat for a steady pulse.

1: C4 open string | 2: E4 open string | 3: G4 open string | 4: A4 open string | 5: A4 open string | 6: G4 open string | 7: E4 open string | 8: C4 open string

1. **Open the string buttons.** Expand Individual open strings. Locate G4, C4, E4 and A4 by their labels rather than assuming the strings rise in pitch from left to right.

2. **Play in pitch order.** At 72 BPM, tap C4, E4, G4 and A4 on successive beats, then descend through the second half of the pattern.

3. **Compare the physical order.** Choose Open strings in 3D, then use Strum all. Compare its G4-C4-E4-A4 sequence with the ascending order you just played.

**What to listen for:** The first note of the open-string strum is higher than the second. That is the configured high-G tuning, not a missing or incorrectly ordered note.

**Try next:** Choose the C chord in 3D and strum again. Compare the changed final string with the open-string version.

## How do I record the ukulele in Resonant?

1. **Choose your playing controls.** Choose Play in 3D view or switch to Classic. Tap a playing surface, use the labeled note controls, or press a computer-key shortcut to enable sound.

2. **Record your idea.** Press Record above the instrument, then play your phrase. This records studio audio without using your microphone. Each take can last up to five minutes.

3. **Listen and keep a copy.** Press Stop, open Recordings, and listen to the take. Choose Download WAV or Original audio to keep a file. Saved takes stay on this device; clearing browser storage removes them.

### Why do the ukulele strings not rise in pitch from left to right?

The tuning is G4–C4–E4–A4. Its high G is above C4, so the four open strings do not form an ascending scale.

### How do I practise a ukulele strum?

In Classic view, sweep across all four strings, pause, then sweep back. Individual open strings lets you hear each pitch before combining them.
