Let a small melody speak clearly. Explore a smooth reed voice through ten diatonic note controls from C3 to E4, with short presses for a light phrase and held notes for a longer line.

## How to play

In 3D view, choose Play to tap, strum, or glide across a playing surface. Hold keys or wind surfaces to sustain a note. Choose Rotate to inspect the model; scroll or pinch to zoom. Use the labeled note controls or computer keys for chords and the full range. Classic view provides the original illustrated playing surface. Hold a labeled note control or computer key to sustain a pitch, then release it to fade. Move between neighboring notes to make a phrase. The displayed pitches are the notes you hear.

## Sound

Clarinet samples from FluidR3 GM provide the reed timbre. The simplified melody scale is a studio control range, not an acoustic clarinet fingering chart or a representation of its full range; breath and embouchure are not modeled.

## Make a neighboring-note phrase turn smoothly

Climb four diatonic notes and return along the same route. A consistent note length makes the turning point easy to hear.

Starting tempo: 72 BPM. Use Keep the beat for a steady pulse.

1: C3 (A) | 2: D3 (S) | 3: E3 (D) | 4: F3 (F) | 5: E3 (D) | 6: D3 (S) | 7: C3 (A) | 8: Release and rest

1. **Read the sounding pitches.** A, S, D and F play C3, D3, E3 and F3. These are the sounding pitches shown in the studio, not a transposed clarinet part.

2. **Use one note per beat.** At 72 BPM, play A-S-D-F-D-S-A. Release each key before the next so the phrase stays a single line rather than becoming a chord.

3. **Keep the turn unhurried.** Give F3 the same one-beat space as the other notes. Release for beat 8, then begin the next phrase on the next beat.

**What to listen for:** The ascent and descent should have matching spacing. A rushed F3 makes the top of the phrase sound clipped.

**Try next:** Hold F3 for two beats and omit the following E3. Notice how one duration change reshapes the same eight-beat phrase.

## How do I record the clarinet in Resonant?

1. **Choose your playing controls.** Choose Play in 3D view or switch to Classic. Tap a playing surface, use the labeled note controls, or press a computer-key shortcut to enable sound.

2. **Record your idea.** Press Record above the instrument, then play your phrase. This records studio audio without using your microphone. Each take can last up to five minutes.

3. **Listen and keep a copy.** Press Stop, open Recordings, and listen to the take. Choose Download WAV or Original audio to keep a file. Saved takes stay on this device; clearing browser storage removes them.

## Questions and answers

### How do I play the online clarinet?

In 3D view, choose Play to tap, strum, or glide across a playing surface. Hold keys or wind surfaces to sustain a note. Choose Rotate to inspect the model; scroll or pinch to zoom. Use the labeled note controls or computer keys for chords and the full range. Classic view provides the original illustrated playing surface. ### What sounds does the virtual clarinet use?

Clarinet samples from FluidR3 GM provide the reed timbre. The simplified melody scale is a studio control range, not an acoustic clarinet fingering chart or a representation of its full range; breath and embouchure are not modeled.

### Are these written clarinet notes or the pitches I hear?

The labels show the sounding pitches, from C3 to E4 in a simplified diatonic scale. This is a studio layout, not a transposed B-flat clarinet part or a guide to acoustic fingerings.

### How do I give a clarinet melody space?

Play two short notes, hold a third, then release it before repeating. Holding a control sustains the sample; pauses between notes help separate each phrase. No microphone is required.
